Frequently Asked Questions?

French Literacy Program

  • I initiate a brief introductory call with you as a parent or guardian, which is free of charge. During this call, I aim to understand your situation and recommend the most suitable tutoring approach. If you choose to proceed with Sylvie Literacy, we will proceed to arrange a time for the initial session.

  • I begin by conducting assessments to gauge your child's unique literacy levels and identify any remedial needs.

These assessments also help me understand your child's interests and what motivates them in their learning journey. Subsequently, I develop a personalized plan of action tailored to your child's specific learning needs.

I then engage with your child in tutoring sessions of your preference, implementing the customized learning plan.

  • We will get orientated and make sure your child is comfortable in the environment. I will then do a diagnostic assessment to evaluate your child’s knowledge of the alphabetic principles and phonological awareness, which will help me establish a baseline. The information that I gain from this first day will help me find a starting point and see the skills that we need to work on and develop future lessons.

Sessions following the diagnostic lesson will be created to meet the needs of your child. I will be constantly reevaluating their progress and moving at a pace that is right for them.

  • To maximize effectiveness, it is strongly recommended to schedule a minimum of two tutoring sessions per week. I provide sessions on Friday afternoons and after school from Monday to Friday. For added convenience, evening sessions or weekend lessons can also be arranged to better suit your preferences.

Once a schedule is established, you can expect it to remain consistent over time for your convenience.

  • This really depends on many different factors, as each child is different and comes into tutoring with a unique skill set. Their ability to advance is individual based on their age, abilities, and commitment to learning. Progress will be documented and you may choose to stop tutoring at any point throughout the academic term, once you feel they have reached their goals.

  • There is a waiting area outside the tutoring room where you can listen in. It is important for the parent to see the progress of the child, however being in the room can often cause distraction from their learning. Reports with their work will be sent home so that you are able to see their accomplishments.

  • If your child has been diagnosed with a learning disability, you are able to apply for a medical tax credit. Please contact your professional tax advisor for additional information on this.

  • I will schedule and invoice your tutoring sessions in advance for the upcoming month, and request payment up front. Payment can be made through e-transfer to: sylvielegacy01@gmail.com OR by personal check

Please note that debit and credit are not accepted at this time.

  • I understand that sometimes life happens and you are unable to make your tutoring session. If possible, please cancel within 24 hours of the appointment time. One additional make up session can be arranged per academic term.
